The Big Moose Station is at the highest elevation on the Adirondack line.  It is at a higher elevation than any train station east of the Mississippi river at 2044 feet above sea level.

 The first train arrived in Big Moose on its way from New York City on October 24th, 1892 and proceeded to Montreal.  The last train to Malone passed through Big Moose on April 24th, 1965. 

           The Big Moose Station was built in 1926, replacing the original station built in 1898.  The original station burned down on April 6th, 1923. 

           The Adirondack Park encompasses over 6 million public and private acres, and includes 9,350 square mile of area, 2,350 lakes, 100,000 water falls, 131 dams and hydro plants, 540,000 acres of wetlands, and 30 major rivers begin their journey here. 

           The Big Moose Station Restaurant was an Adirondack architectural heritage award recipient in 2001 for the restoration and stewardship of an Adirondack Historical Structure.

            John Constable Killed the “Big Moose” in 1851.
